David Reynolds
I am interested in a politics that is not political.
I was raised in Coos Bay, Oregon in the 1980s and relocated to the Coburg Hills while studying journalism at the University of Oregon in the 1990s. Three terms before graduating, I got an opportunity as a long haul trucker. I drove truck, shipping Mexican onions to Florida, Florida oranges to Washington, and Washington lumber to Nebraska for years, writing my observations and drawing sketches in unpublished journals. I owned my own truck for years and just sold it at the turn of the year, and now I have the opportunity to write for Coburg Hills News.
I am committed not only to journalistic integrity, but also to thinking of ways to reframe water cooler conversations. When it comes to politics, the politicians are too often in control of the way topics are discussed and written about. I agree with Mark Twain, among whose memorable maxims is: “Politicians and diapers must be changed often, and for the same reason.”
But, on the other hand, change for change’s sake can be foolish, so it’s important to be able to distinguish between meritorious ideas and those that are distracting. Our biggest problems often arise not from lack of knowledge, but from a misplaced certainty in false information. Let’s work together to get to the bottom of things…all the way down to the Mohawk or the Willamette, between which rise the Coburg Hills.
